According to statistics on fire and explosion accidents occurred in powder processing units and polyolefin powder silos in our petrochemical industry in recent years, the ignition sources of most of these accidents are from the discharge of static electricity. Occurrence of these accidents not only results in damage of lives and loss of property, but also influences safe production and social image of those enterprises concerned.Lots of work has been done to solve the problems caused by static electricity, but by far, electrostatic hazard in some production links and areas during polyolefin powder processing has not been effectively controlled, and it still threatens safe production. Accidents resulted from lack of awareness of electrostatic hazard and the existence of electrostatic risks urges us to strengthen study on powder electrostatic hazard. Aiming at the electrostatic hazard existed in Dalian Petrochemical Company's 200,000t p.a. Polypropylene Unit, this article makes advices on scientific and effective control and preventive measures to provide technical guarantee for safe, stable and optimized production. By analyzing the causes for charging of polypropylene powder and electrostatic hazard at each part of the unit, based on the results of simulation experimental units and field test parameters, hazard evaluation on transportation pipelines, silos and other parts is obtained. And a set of effective safe preventive measures on electrostatic hazard for production unit processes, polypropylene powder transportation, storage and processing procedures are introduced.This article combines achievements in electrostatic hazard research home and abroad, practical production experiences and personal knowledge. The research achievement of this article can be used as guidance for static electricity protection in Dalian Petrochemical Company's 200,000t/y Polypropylene Unit, and it can also be used by other polypropylene units with double ring canal structure for reference.
