Five-axis CNC machine is a key equipment in modern manufacturing industry, andit is found wide application in aerospace industry, shipping, motor industry, power equip-ment and so on. In the process of machine tool motion, the relative position betweenthe machine components and the fixture becomes complicated due to the introduction ofthe rotational axes. It is easily producing collision, and leads to the damage of machineand workpiece, more serious threaten the safety of the operator. Therefore, the 3-D solidbased dynamic interference detection function, called collision checking system for short,is offered in many high grade CNC machine abroad. The main objects of this thesis areto reveal the fundamental principles and the implementation methods for the collisionchecking system.The mathematical foundation of the collision checking system is firstly introducedin this thesis. Based on it, the kinematics of the machine is deduced subsequently. In or-der to detect the collision and interference correctly, the linear interpolation is carried out.After that, the fundamental architecture for the collision checking system and modelingprinciple for the CNC machine are proposed, and an OpenCASCADE based developingenvironment of collision checking for five-axis CNC machine is developed applying VCprogramming language. Applying this developing environment, it can realize the model-ing for the specified machine, kinematics modeling, collision component selection, readG code and interpolation in a rapid manner. At last, an collision checking system forfive-axis machine with TRT type configuration is developed successfully.This paper provides a theoretical basis for developing collision checking system, andit has practical guide for using other tools to develop collision checking system. This ideacan also be used in other studies, for example, motion simulation of robot and have animportant guiding significance.
