Strip mill system is a complex multi-variable nonlinear system, the dynamic characteristic of which is very complex. For integrated flatness and gauge control, our group researches the comprehensive dynamic information of the mill. It's the key to get the dynamic model, considering the characteristics of each point along the roll axial distribution in vertical direction.This issue makes improvements on the model of transverse vibration. As vertical displacement of both ends of the rolls will happen when rolling, the simply supported boundary condition is changed to elastic support. Mechanical analysis of infinitesimal element of the roller body is made in order to solve differential equations of rolls transverse vibration.Transverse vibration equations of rolls get solved by analytical method, and the coupled vibration is a major problem of this article. As the dynamic damping at both ends of the work and backup roll is close during rolling, the supports are simplified as the same linear stiffness coefficient. Changes in boundary conditions is solved by numerical method and programming. Simulation of the transverse vibration is programmed using MATLAB.Natural frequency and vibration mode coefficient is calculated, and vibration curve of transverse vibration were calculated under certain initial conditions. Lay the foundation for the integrated flatness and gauge control.Virtual prototype of four-high mill is established by SolidWorks and ADAMS, and simulation is done to get dynamic characteristics of rolls in rolling process. The virtual experiment proves the theory is correct.
