Pipe-racking V-door machine joins the pipe-racking and pipe-transferring two parts. V-door machine is an important part in automatic drilling system. To solve the operation that pipe singles are uploaded or returned to the drill floor and made up stands, this has been researched for many years abroad. But, the research of this technology is backward relatively in domestic. As China begin to drilling in deep and ultra-deep ocean areas, research of pipe-racking V-door machine is imperative.This subject designed pipe-racking V-door machine for deepwater semi-submersible drilling platform, the system can realize the operation that pipe singles are uploaded or returned to the drill floor and made up stands completely. This design research could obviously enhance security, quicken speed and reduce labor intensity of drilling.This paper focuses on the study of scheme design, mechanism design and hydraulic system of pipe-racking V-door machine. Those tasks have been accomplished as following: First, purpose and significance of this subject was analysed, development of automated pipe-racking system was presented and general scheme of the whole pipe automated work system and each mechanism composition was introduced. Second, it accomplished three general schemes design of pipe-racking V-door machine, including rotary V-door machine, oriented V-door machine and moving V-door machine, and it has been modeled by using 3D solid model software. Lastly, the paper analyzed statics, kinematics and simulation analysis ,and designed the hydraulic drive system and control system for moving V-door machine.
