Antibiotic is well known for treating many diseases,in 1930s,it was discovered by human, in 1950s,China started to produce antibiotics,and became one of the most impotent country in the word. With the rapid development of industry, antibiotic made bad effects to environment, and the environment pollution became worse and worse. Wastewater generated in the production process has high levels of pollutants and complexes components,it is recognized very difficult to treat with . So people began paying more and more attention to anaerobic granular sludge for its superiority, which has high volume load,covers less area ,saves energy conservation and produces biogas. But an application is also rarely reported that anaerobic granular sludge is used in antibiotic pharmaceutical wastewater treatment. In other words it was not yet formed a granular sludge with high load mode.Shandong Best Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. is a comprehensive engineering services company that basing on environmental protection and resource recycling, the design of BIC reactor with proprietary intellectual property rights(Patent No.ZL200620080369.9)was developed by themselves. It has been applied extensively in various high concentration wastewater treatment projects. The company has features of explore and want to develop the field in the pharmaceutical business, and it build a BIC reactor for a pharmaceutical factory in Henan, 2008. The effective volume is 2,000 m3, anaerobic granular sludge to be used for wastewater treatment. In February 2009, the project was finished, but in the water debugging phase, the reactor inputs 500 m3 anaerobic granular sludge, that all disintegrated in 5 days, and the result directed economic loss of nearly 500,000 Yuan, because of these, Best Company entrust our research group to solve this technical problem in this context, the group researched the anaerobic granular sludge wastewater treatment of high concentration of antibiotic production. In the whole process of the work, the group overcame various difficulties and got success. The research result will be used widely in antibiotic pharmaceutical wastewater treatment also the result brought good economic, environmental and social benefits.The main conclusion of the trial as follows,1. After pretreatment of the raw water, it is feasible to use anaerobic granular sludge in wastewater treatment with high concentration of antibiotics. Through the pretreatment of raw water, used BIC reactor in high concentration of antibiotics wastewater treatment of a pharmaceutical factory in Henan,that was offered by Shandong Best Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. The COD concentration in influent was 10,000~15,000 mg/L,the volume load was 13.0 kgCOD/(m3?d),mesophilic anaerobic digestion ,after being treated, effluent COD concentration could keep less than 2,000 mg/L,VFA concentrations maintained at 4.0 mol/L ,and the removal rate of COD maintained at 85%.2. Pretreatment measures is the key to the successful application. The high concentration of pharmaceutical manufacturing wastewater contains residues of penicillin, erythromycin and their intermediates in addition high concentrations of sulfate. These substances can inhibit the activity of anaerobic bacteria. When we directly use the raw water, that caused the granular sludge inoculated rapid disintegrate and loosed activity so it is necessary to treat raw water when we use application of anaerobic process in the same wastewater.3. For the purpose of controlling the toxic limit, it should use wastewater diluted concentrations of pharmaceutical water reactor. The pharmaceutical wastewater contains high sulfate, and the content is SO42-≤8,000 mg/L,which severely inhibited the biological activity of the anaerobic bacteria and methanogen by high concentrations of sulfate and H2S, and the presence of butyl acetate hindered the role of the mass transfer. In order to play better removal efficiency of the reactor and control the toxic substances in a limited range and prevent the concentration of toxic substances up to the withstand toxicity of granular sludge limits, We used the concentration of pharmaceutical manufacturing wastewater in the reactor water dilution BIC, and achieved good test results.4. We should pay more attention to the reactor load limits and concentration balance when we treat wastewater of antibiotic. The wastewater has High concentrations of COD and SS,in addition, residues of penicillin, erythromycin and their intermediates, it is very difficult to treat them by biological methods. Anaerobic granular sludge system that is easier to caused by the influent COD concentration and the yield of water. Based on the fact, we used the method of acclimation of activated with low load and high removal rate .When the removal rate of COD more than 80%, final effluent concentrations of COD and VFA less than 3,000 mg/L and 6.0 mol/L, we will consider increasing the reactor volume load.
