Polypropylene has excellent mechanical property,stress cracking resistance,high rigidity and melting point. It has the lowest density of all the resin. It is one of the major sources of water-saving irrigation pipe. Water-saving irrigation pipe joints of polypropylene are produced mainly by injection molding process. By Spheripol technology of Himont,the polypropylene unit of Dushanzi petrochemical company can produce a variety of grades polypropylene,such as homopolymer,random and block copolymer. In this paper,the main objective is exploitation of water-saving irrigation pipe joints of polypropylene,which is modification of the polypropylene resin produced by Dushanzi Petrochemical Company with nucleator technology.The methods of modification of polypropylene and nucleating agent in the application of polypropylene are reviewed in this paper. Combined with polypropylene unit technology and product characteristics of Dushanzi Petrochemical Company,the technical indicators of the polypropylene resin used for water-saving irrigation pipe joints are determined by cooperating with other product manufacturers.The procedures of the expoitation in this paper are as follows: The block of polypropylene from polypropylene unit of Dushanzi Petrochemical Company was used as the basic resin. Appropriate amount of modified nucleating agent was added into polypropylene powder, followed by squeezing and granulation. to produce the polypropylene resin for water-saving irrigation pipe joints.In this paper,the technical indicators of the resin used for water-saving irrigation pipe joints are determined, based on characteristics of water-saving irrigation pipe joints and the prior experiment, by adequately communicating with other product manufacturers. By the experiment,the proper resin,which is content to the special technical indicators,is chosen from two kinds of block polypropylene produced by polypropylene unit of Dushanzi Petrochemical Company as the basic resin. Furthermore,six kinds of nucleating agent respectively blended with the proper polypropylene resin in different ratio. Then the mixtures are squeezed,granulated. Sample was prepared,and its mechanical property was measured. According to the results,the right nucleating agent is chosen. The adding amount is also determined through contrasting with imported resins. In order to reduce costs,the optimal scheme is decided after the experiments with other two nucleating agents. By amplification and application of pilot experiments,the proper polypropylene resin used for water-saving irrigation pipe joints produced by downstream users is finally exploited.
