The most important job of quality management is preventing the occurrences of failure. With the development in dozens of years, the main task of quality management has evolved from inspection of productions to statistical quality control, and currently Total Quality Management. The key role of quality management is now to prevent the occurrences of failure, and to improve the problematic system, as opposed to the original simple inspection. Quality management develops from "managing the effect" to "managing the causes", that means using Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA),Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) tools to find the factors which potentially affect the quality, and accordingly, we take preventive actions in each stage of the production process. This thesis introduces the history and present situation of error proofing, and analyzes the difference of error proofing system between Japanese and Europe/American enterprises. Moreover, we summarize the properties of error proof systems, and further introduce the new project "E" in our company in details, including design, produce, assembling, and inspection, which enable us to achieve the target of zero defect.According to the application of the E project in error proofing, we successfully apply the DFMEA to detect error in design. We implement the PFMEA to ensure a robust design by applying error proof techniques in production, assembling, and inspection. As a result, the failure rate reduces by 20% comparing to previous cases. Customers express more satisfaction. At the same time, the accumulated error proofing experiences are good for the development of new products. It also sets up an example for this industry.
