Natural rutile and synthetic rutile is one of the important mineral raw material used to refine titanium, and the best material for the manufacture of the high-grade welding electrode and rutile type titanium pigment at the same time. Since available resources of high grade natural rutile tend to diminish, to explore new method to produce synthetic rutile with low energy consumption and less environment pollution is necessary. Thus, producing synthetic rutile from abundantly available high titanium slag becomes a major alternative. Scientists all over the world pay great attention to develop environmental protection and energy saving process for the production of artificial rutile.In this paper, the high titanium slag from a region of Yunnan is the research object, and a new type of smelting process used for the preparation of synthetic rutile is put forward, by using the microwave heating technology and other technical methods. The analysis of the product of the acid leaching-roasting process shows that the diffraction peak intensity of Ti3O5 type solid solution reduces gradually,the diffraction peak intensity of TiO2 increases gradually. the material surface crack occurs and produces rod objects.The response surface optimization of experimental parameters shows that Na2CO3/titanium slag quality ratio of 0.30, in 850℃ heat preservation 60 min is the optimal experiment scheme. Under this situation, the predictive value of TiO2 content is 94.11%, experimental value is 94.24%, and the relative error is 0.14%.In this paper, microwave activation roasting-acid leaching process for handling new high titanium slag, and achieved good results, it’s producted a lot of the manufacture of the high-grade welding electrode and rutile type titanium pigment...
