Amorphous alloys are a sort of metal material which is discovered in recent years. It is a kind of new material with expansive application future. Microstructure of amorphous alloys has determined it has a series of new features, such as excellent magnetic, electrical, chemical and mechanical properties, so amorphous alloys have been applied widely in many fields. At present, process technology of amorphous materials mainly in the rapid solidification, includes drop-on-demand ink-jet delivery technique, chill block melt spinning process technique and so on.The thickness of amorphous ribbons is the key factors to determine the quality of ribbons. Too thick or too thin ribbons will have an impact on the quality of amorphous ribbons. So amorphous ribbons automatic thickness controlling is the key to the entire production process. This article is based on the original production equipment and amorphous ribbons production application, design of a control system by PLC as the core. According to the amorphous ribbons production application, analyze the control principle and program structure of the control system. The distance between cooling roll and nozzle is the most important aspect of the entire process and the important part of the quality of products. The distance should be kept at the same value during the entire process (usually 0.3mm), to ensure the thickness of the amorphous ribbons (0.02-0.03mm). According to the production process of control difficult proposed solutions and ideas, according to the swelling capacity to solve the problem of the distance between cooling roll and nozzle at the beginning. On this basis, put forward BP neural network to process the data of the distance between the roll and to predict the spacing. Simulating results show that this prediction model has a better forecasting accuracy and can be used to compensate the spacing.The function of CP1H programmable logic controller of OMRON company is emphasized. Meanwhile the NT5Z man-machine interface, grating ruler, servo motor, servo driver, NTZ-Designer and CX-Programmer are also introduced. And combination of production required to complete design of the entire control system.
