Coastal urban areas, with the unique advantages of vicinity to ocean and land and rich natural resources, provide a good environment for social and economical development, ecological construction of the city and residents'leisure lives. Therefore, we ought not to turn a blind eye to problems in restoration of damaged and degraded coastal ecosystem and coastal environment protection. It is imperative to study theoretically and practically values of coastal ecosystem services and evaluation methods for sustainable development and ecological restoration in coastal areas and to integrate them into Performance Evaluation of Ecological Restoration.This dissertation presents a systematic research on performance evaluation of urban coastal ecological restoration from the restoration of urban coastal ecosystem services perspective using multidiscipline theories and methodologies, such as Restoration Ecology, Ecosystem Service Value Assessment and Analytic Hierarchy Process, etc. The main research achievements are the following:(1) Clarify the purpose of urban ecological restoration in urban areas:this thesis studies systematically at home and abroad on ecological restoration, ecological or ecological construction. It puts forward that the goal of ecological restoration is to restore the general characteristics and service function of ecological systems. As to the coastal ecological restoration in urban areas, the goal of ecological restoration is to restore and improve the cultural functions of the ecological system on the basis of restoration of the basic life supporting functions.(2) Using comprehensive index evaluation methods such as AHP and Delphi method, this thesis selected 14 idex items of 4 categories in the ecological restoration evaluation system based on the identification of the functions of urban coastal ecological system, and for the first time, took into consideration of the important role they played in satisfying human needs, the values of urban coastal ecological system, and the evaluation model of constructing coastal ecological restoration.(3) This thesis takes the coastal ecological restoration of Wuyuan Bay in Xiamen as a study case. Utilizing urban coastal ecological restoration evaluation system, it calculates, analyze and compare the ecological values of Wuyuan Bay in three historical periods before and after its ecological restoration. The thesis concludes that the ecosystem of Wuyuan Bay have been damaged seriously. Thanks to ecological restoration, the basic life support service function of Wuyuan Bay will be restored to 65.3% of what they were, which is 2.4 times better than what it was before restoration, though it was not likely to be fully recovered. After restoration, regulating services function could be restored to 96% of the level in the history of Wuyuan Bay, which is 9 times better than what it was before restoration. Cultural function will be 1.1 times better than the levesl in the history of Wuyan Bay,4.3 times better than what it was before restoration. Basically, it could achieve ecological and cultural goals of ecological restoration of Wuyuan Bay. But the results also indicate the deficiencies of ecological restoration in Wuyuan Bay. Besides, this thesis provides some suggestions to them, putting theories into practice.
