Composites with biological fiber as filling materials have unexampled advantages over the composites filled with other fibers. As a plant fiber, rice straw is an abundant renewable resource, and has special significance of utilization.This dissertation deals with the etherified rice straw fiber reinforced low-density polyethylene (PE) resin composites. The mechanical properties and fracture mopholony of composites under different blending conditions were studied.Etherification of rice straw was carried out with epichlorohydrin chloride as etherifying agent. The polarity of rice straw decreased after modification, and the etherified rice straw displayed thermoplastic properties. The orthogonal design was used to determine the optimum blending conditions. Polyethylene blended with both rice straw and etherified rice straw with different contents at different temperature and rotating speed. The rheological curves of blending were gained. Tensile properties of the dumbbell samples were tested with reference to the State standard GB/T 1040-92. For both rice straw and etherified rice straw composites, the tensile strength decreased as the content of the rice straw increased, so did the elongation at break of composites. Densities of both etherified rice straw composites and the rice straw composites were measured at room temperature. The torque rheometer was used to determine the rheology of the composites. The relationship between shear stress and shear rate was studied, and the effects of the content of rice straw in the composites and shear rate on rheological behavior were discussed. Composite of polyethylene and the etherified rice straw was a non-Newtonian fluid. The viscosity of composites increased as the content of rice straw increased.
