In recent years, with the advancement of science and technology, ship electric propulsion has got more and more attention. Ship electric propulsion has lots of advantages such as good performance of mobility, high utilization of fuel, less room to be used and so on. The prospects of ship electric propulsion are bright. Weis-Fogh mechanism is a kind of machine which can generate large lift force by"Clap and Fling". Different from other lift wings, Weis-Fogh mechanism does not present Wagner effect, so it has perfect starting and mobility. A new ship propulsion system which is composed of Weis-Fogh mechanism and electric propulsion,will have high research value.Firstly, in this paper, the lift principle of Weis-Fogh mechanism was analyzed, and the impact brought by a gap between two vanes was also analyzed. Based on the rotation Weis-Fogh mechanism, a rotation Weis-Fogh mechanism with four blades was designed. With the Fluent software, the simulation of Weis-Fogh mechanism was made. The conclusion that the pulsation and mean thrust of a rotation Weis-Fogh mechanism with four blades are better than the ones of a rotation Weis-Fogh mechanism with single blade was verified by the result of simulation. So a rotation Weis-Fogh mechanism with four blades is a propulsion device with good performance.Secondly, based on the Weis-Fogh mechanism, structure of the electric propulsion system was designed. PMSM was chosen for the driving unit of the propulsion system. The driving system was designed under the theory of vector control and the SVPWM technology. Traditional PID controllers have a disadvantage that it can not regulate the control parameters automatically. Because of this disadvantage, a single neuron PID controller was used for the regulator of speed ring in order to improve system performance. The driving system model was established in MATLAB's Simulink environment, and the simulation experiments were fished. The conclusion that the system's dynamic performance and static perfoemance are good was verified by the results.Finally, the design of major circuit of the system was accomplished based upon TI's exclusive DSP (TMS320F2812) which is used for motor control. Based on the hardware design and the simulation experiments, the software design was accomplished. The whole program contains lots of modules like PMSM vector control algorithm module, SVPWM module, detection module and so on.
