As the offshore petroleum industry in China is gradually developing from shallow water to deep sea, automatic connection system of underwater pipelines is needed urgently. Underwater flange connecting tools are the core equipments of underwater pipeline connection equipments, which are mainly used to connect pipeline flanges. The research subject is named "Research on Tie-in Techniques for Deepwater Pipelines and Nationalized Technology of AUT Inspection Equipments" (No.2006AA09A105-4), which is one branch of National "863" project——Pipeline Laying Technology at The Deep Sea. The main content of the paper is to complete experimental prototype design of new underwater flange connecting tools and related technical analysis.Firstly, the international and domestic development of the underwater flange connecting tools is introduced in the paper, according to the relevant technology and experiences of the research on tools at home and abroad, through the analysis of second-generation prototype of the underwater flange connecting tools, the paper deeply studies the basic principle of hydraulic tension method to stretch and pre-tighten the flange bolt, as well the paper analyzes and calculates the bolt pre-tightening force with the new standard method of ASME, combining work environment and technical requirements of the underwater flange connecting tools, and then puts forward the overall design program of experimental prototype design of the new underwater flange connecting tools.Secondly, according to the overall structural program of the new underwater flange, the paper analyzes and makes three-dimensional design of bolt tool, nut tool and bolt tension mechanism in detail, at the same time, the paper also makes structural strength and stiffness analysis of the key parts, to verify the rationality of the structural design through virtual assembly and kinematics simulation; the paper puts the emphases on the principle analysis of the lead-in device of nuts, and uses simulation soft wares to carry out kinematics simulation of it, and then to verify the feasibility lead-in structural design of nuts through the experimental prototype of the lead-in device of nuts testing of nuts; based on the on—off structure of flange connecting tools and kinematics simulation, the paper makes optimal design of pressure points of the on—off structure.Finally, as for the flange connecting system in the pre-tightening state and pressure testing state, the paper respectively makes tightness analysis, reliability analysis and strength and stiffness analysis of the flange connecting system, to research the sealing performance of flange connecting system, pre-tightening force and the effect of internal pressure of pipeline on the flange sealing performance.
