Acoustic radiation induced by naval structures'vibration affects their acoustic stealth performance, control of naval structures'vibration can reduce the corresponding acoustic radiation. Piezoelectric laminated structure, integrated with sensor, actuator and control processor function, can form a feedback control loop, having very good real-time control ability and being widely used in Active Vibration Control (AVC) of structure.A 4-node quadrilateral isoparametric element is presented to simulate a piezoelectric composite shell element.5 generalized displacements degrees of freedom per node and one electrical potential degree of freedom per piezoelectric layer are considered. Electric and mechanical properties of typical structures with distributed piezoelectric senors and actuators are analyzed. The governing equation, derived on the basis of the Midlin first-order shear deformation theory and the Hamilton's principle, is solved by a High Precise Direct (HPD) integration method in state space. Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) method is applied to design an output feedback controller. Responses of a piezoelectric composite cantilever subjected to a transient excitation at the free end and a simply supported plate subjected to a harmonic excitation are suppressed. The effects of weighting matrix in the objective function and the thickness ratio of piezoelectric layers to middle layer are analyzed.AVC of piezoelectric composite plate/beam is analyzed on the basis of the piezoelectric composite plate/shell finite element model, making a foundation for the use of piezoelectric smart structures in naval structures'vibration control.
