The area of cities in the world is one-tenth of the area of people living space, but the quantity of people inhabiting in the cities is one third of the world's population, and more than two-thirds of the wealth of society is centralized there. Cities are the most concentrated areas of human economic and social activities, but also the most concentrated areas of engineering and building. With the continuous expansion of city size and development of urban construction, the demands for the study of urban engineering geology are higher and higher. Therefore it has important theoretical significance for urban planning, engineering construction and environmental protection that proofing the engineering geology regularity of urban space, dividing engineering geological types of site, and thus evaluating engineering geological conditions of site.In this paper, through collecting and measuring the data of secondary wave speed, it is to be regionalized and studied that engineering geological conditions of Handan. First, to draw contouring figures of depth in the different range of secondary wave speed and contouring figures of secondary wave speed in the different range of depth, in order to analyzing and studying the characteristics of engineering geological conditions of Handan from the horizontal and vertical direction. Second, to sum up a reasonable method of evaluation and model, and according to this, divide into the soil types. And on this basis, further divide into the categories of construction sites. Then draw the zoning maps of ground soil type of Handan. Finally, based on the contour maps of secondary wave speed and the zoning maps of ground soil type, combined with other engineering geological characteristics and GIS, set up the system of zoning and evaluation for engineering geological conditions of Handan to evaluate synthetically its engineering geological conditions and improve the information management of Handan in engineering geology deficiencies.The study has a major guiding significance on the seismic design of buildings and the decision-making to engineering construction. Meanwhile, in urban planning and development it has a certain practical significance.
