With the era of global consumption, most of the external space of city commercial pedestrian streets still maintains stereotyped of its original appearance. If a city or a building block is not based on the development and construction of the times, it means the loss of its own competitiveness. Therefore, it has become an urgent problem on how the city commercial pedestrian streets should respond to the characteristics of consumer age. and shape modern external space to meet the consumer demand. In this context, new ideas are proposed to design external space to meet modern consumer demands, aesthetics and activities.Firstly, from the understanding of concept about consumer culture and commercial streets, the current situations of commercial streets in China are analyzed. Besides, the relationship between consumer culture and commercial streets is analyzed; secondly, the factors of external space about the well-known examples, like layout, street space, building interface, landscape and other elements are analyzed, in the hope of finding out a meeting point for consumer culture and commercial streets. The principles and consumer reflections of commercial streets are discussed. Finally, the design ideas and products of the famous architect offices are enclosed.Modern architectures must be combined with plans, culture, and aesthetics, so that modern designs can be created. The research achievement is expected to help with shaping the external space in city commercial pedestrian streets under consumer culture in the future.
