Research On Public Open Space Development Of Ulaanbaatar

During the last few decades,the world is globalized rapidly,and the population has overloaded in the cities.By population increases,the city had to immediately provide basic needs such as housings and workplaces for the citizens in the future.That gradually began to destroy the public open space.Urban public open space is one of the most important areas for people to share their views,participate,and exchange information in social life.Although public open spaces have many roles and responsibilities,the most crucial part is to keep the public comfortable and healthy.Mongolia,after the '90s,the privatization law has been approved,and its impacts on the public open space of the Ulaanbaatar.For the Ulaanbaatar city,the concept of public open space is limited by squares and parks.However,the public open space is not just open space,is the living space with people,which is connected.Beside the squares and parks,streets are the valuable open space in the city.Streets are also public space;at the same time,it integrates and connects the other all urban elements.In developed countries of the World,the streets primary type is trading,which is the critical service of the city.Walkability in public open spaces in Ulaanbaatar is challenging due to the lack of accessibility design,informal merging into car traffic,and the general absence of adequate urban and space planning.The lack of accessible and pedestrian-friendly public spaces in Ulaanbaatar city has emerged as a significant concern to develop smart and sustainable spaces for the 21 st century.Since the emergence of Ulaanbaatar city,current “Juulchin Street” was the main trading line of the f?rst settlement,and the first department store of the city has built on the street line.However today,“Juulchin street” is the second level road,and it almost lost historical identity.Besides,Urt tsagaan square on “Juulchin Street” as a public open space and the human scale of the square is becoming invisible by vehicles pressure.Therefore,the study examines how to improve the functions of public open space on the street line and the reclaim the historical value for “Juulchin Street” with developed countries experiences.
