Energy problem has been a crucial factor of limiting the development of human society. Now our country has taken energy-saving and emission-reduction as a basic policy. In our country, the energy structure that coal plays the most important role will be unchanged for a long time and almost 50 percent of the coal produced is burned to generate electric power. So making full use of the steam coal has great significance to China's sustainable development.Every boiler has its best coal, which means it can operate safely, economically, and environmentally only with the corresponding coal. But now the coal market is so complex that coals supplied by market or bought by power plants usually have a deviation from adaptability scope of boilers, which causes much trouble to the coal procurement and boiler operation. So to make a study of the boiler's coal applicability is helpful to the coal purchase and operation adjustment.Based on coal production and supply,8 typical coals were tested with a thermogravimetric analyzer and burned in a bituminous coal boiler for 600MW supercritical unit. And the boiler's safety, economy and environmental character was obtained. The relation between coal quality, the characteristic parameters of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and the boiler's coal applicability was acquired through correlation or regression analysis with SPSS.So the boiler's adaptability for a new coal can be preliminarily judged, which can be used to guide coal procurement and operation management. What's more, the best working condition was chosen as the standard value in order to analyze energy consumption and study the influence of operation characters on the standard coal consumption rate.
