| In recent years, China is in the climax of urban construction. In the constant replacements of old and new city, the "demolition campaign" continues across the country. However, the contradiction between the preservation of culture and improvement of living conditions, the contradiction between the urban culture retention and the economic interests of developers are derived from this "great enthusiasm" of the urban construction. It is obvious that this is a difficult problem we are facing. The urban culture is inseparable from the accumulation of the history. The buildings in different historical periods are not only the material carriers of urban culture, but also the most direct expression of the urban culture and sprit. Thus, how to face the history of our city, how to face the transformation of the old buildings, as well as the reconstruction of different type of old buildings, factories, warehouse, re-use of the waste of resources has become a non negligible important issues for contemporary designers.The topic of this thesis is based on author's interests and concerns about the reconstruction of old building and factories. This thesis discussed the realistic meaning of author's graduate design and the existing successful designs of the reconstruction of old factories. Author proposed several reasonable suggestions and discussion on how to deal with the relationships between human and nature, human and environment, the harmony between man and city reconstruction, how to reproduce the traditional culture, and how to make the greatest potential of waste materials and so on. The goals of this thesis are protecting some valuable old buildings from destruction or simply replaced by new buildings. In current continuous replacement between old and new city, the contemporary designers should tell government how to find the reasonable balance between the development and preservation, so that the history and memory of the city can be preserved. |
