The new DC motor was first put forward by the famous motor expert Professor Wang Zong-pei in 2009. We began our cooperative research in the new DC motor ontology and its driving control strategies in the last two years with Professor Wang. The new permanent magnet DC generators'external characteristic was studied in this paper. The main contents are as follows:First, this paper described the working principle of brush DC motors and modern brushless DC motors, summarized their advantages and disadvantages, pointed out the congenital weaknesses of the modern brushless DC motors, and then point out the significance of the new DC motor.Second, this paper introduced the basic structure of the new DC generator, derived its mathematical model, and explained the working process of the new DC generator. Simulation model was established according to the mathematical model. By contrasting the results of simulation and experiment, the model was proved to be correct. By means of the simulation model, the new DC generator was deeply studied.Third, this paper focused on the external characteristic of the new DC generator in different control modes, namely the full bridge rectifier, the under bridge chopping and the upper bridge logic control mode. With the help of simulation, this paper analyzed the commutation process and the external characteristic of the new DC generator in different control modes in detail, and then discussed the influence factors of the external characteristic, such as rotor speed, duty cycle, the winding self-inductance and mutual inductance, commutation angle, etc.The DC generator of this paper is new and still in its infancy. So the experiments are limited because of the new DC generator's incomplete controller. At present, the detailed experiments with the full bridge rectifier controller were carried on. However, the other two control modes were not investigated for the lack of controller. Under the full bridge rectifier mode, the simulation results and experimental results are basically identical which proves the new DC generator's model is correct. The other two control modes have no corresponding experimental data, but the analysis results using the former simulation model is still credible.
