In this paper , a verb cluster model of the natural language understanding faced to context is studied, which is very excellent in the fields of the mechanical product design process. Based on the natural language understanding system, the process of verb cluster in the discourse is mainly considered. Ultimately the transition from user's requirement expressed in natural language to conceptual design requirements is accomplished, providing a great support for follow-up design.This paper analyzes the verb in natural language comprehension, and makes a secondary-level verb classification according to verb stage. Then having a research on the classification of the events and the relationship between verbs and events which are based on the verb classification. According to the classification,the treatment option of the verb clustering is designed, and focusing on the treatment option of process clustering. In addition, considering the knowledge representation of system, finally,the processing model of the verb cluster is established, which makes use of knowledge templates to state the static knowledge and dynamic knowledge used in the verb clustering process. Meanwhile, the model can determine the core events of the verb cluster through the connotation and extension of the concept, which ultimately obtains the verb cluster to the core events according to the domain of process tree and association analysis.Finally, by establishing professional knowledge libraries, this model combined with the overall natural language understanding framework can be applied to the field of mechanical product design. Tested the model, the result is satisfactory.
