With the developments of CAD & CAM in product and the improving requirements for mechatronics, human-computer communication environment in natural language is the necessity to intellectualized system which is the tendency in future. Semantic analysis of natural language understanding (NLU) technique is applied to product design in this paper by conversing the understanding results extracted from the analysis of users' requirements describing in natural language to the requirements or parameters of conceptual design for supporting following design as well as providing users a fine interface.Upon the analysis of the characteristics of natural language in product design domain and the balance of the advantages and disadvantages of two current methods to NLU, the method based on knowledge is chosen as the main technique to understand restrictive Chinese. Firstly, representing the concept intension and extension, upon comparison the existing several knowledge representation methods, the mixed expression of Rule and Frame is applied to representation of the concept intension and extension. Secondly, discussing the methods of the semantic analysis of NLU, a new method of semantic analysis based on the base of Noun and Verb Concept is set up assimilating whatever is beneficial from Case-Grammar and Conceptual dependency theory. Thirdly, the paper analyses concept , intension extension, concept relations as well as the relations between semantic and concept. Fourthly, introducing The intension and extension of Noun and Verb as well as realization of the knowledge library, the paper expounds the processing of semantics analysis based upon the intension and extension of the Noun and Verb. The understanding of noun phrase based on the attributive-centered relation and property reasoning based on concept intension are accomplished .The word matching as well as the choosing of semantic analysis of verb based on the concept intension and extension is realized. Finally, the system is applied to requirement analysis system for mechanical product design and net-oriented intelligent tutorial system all with satisfactory results.
