Along with the technology development and progress in machinery industry, the demand from users on products is becoming more and more, making mechanical products toward diversified and flexible direction. Therefore, we need to adopt new thoughts, new methods and new technology to adapt to the demand of the market, such as to shorten design period, to reduce production price, to improve products'interchangeability, to guarantee the quality and to be well positioned. This paper applies modular thought in mass production and design of gear reducer, and makes a systematic research based on the comparison among current products. The main content is listed as follows:1) Applies the concept, characteristics, procedure and the advantage of modular design idea in batch reducer design principle and classification. This paper chooses the design mode'modularization improvement on existed products'and makes classification and expansion of existed reducer.2) Based on the detailed analysis and comparison on typical reducers, this paper applies optimal design ideas and priority number theory, puts forward a set of parallel axis gear reducer center distance and transmission ratio, and applies Visual Basic programming software and Microsoft Office Access database on a proposed data pinion gear matching calculations. Finally technical parameter calculation is processed, and a set of relatively ideal data is obtained.3) Applies modular design thought to carry on secondary development in 3D design software Pro/E, and to make structure design and parameterized modeling on large quantities of gear reducer, module, body module, axis and bearing module.4) Applies VB programming software to make systematic formation on the designed reducer type. Gets a humanized reducer selection system, convenient for users to make rapid choice according to their own requirements.5) Applies VC++ programming software and Pro/TOOLKIT second development tools in Pro/E to design the reducer CAD system, realizing the rapid formation of reducer parametric model and automatic assembly process.
