Building moving is a kind of project that demands high technology and has certain risk. The key point of the building moving technology is to design translation underpinning structure. Masonry structure, especially historical building, has a dissatisfactory overall performance and seismic performance because of old age, which made design of translation underpinning structure more difficult and complicated. So it is of great significance to take a research of masonry translation underpinning structure's mechanical performance.A research of twin beam-underpinning structure is taken by 9 full size specimen, and the main impact factors and control parameters are analysed. The design plan of model is made according to engineering experience, in which plan two 200t jacks are used to load. By extreme difference analysis of orthogonal test, each impact factor is discussed to consider bearing capacity of underpinning component.Two method are taken to deal with the interface of underpinning reinforced concrete beam and masonry structure:one has daubing on the interface and has connecting beam, another has daubing on the interface without connecting beam but has joint bar. According to the analysis of experiment results, this two kind of method dealing with the interface differ little on transfering the vertical load. All the specimens have good adhesive ability,and could transfer the vertical load effectively to fullfill the need of construction.According to experiment results, the bearing capacity,mechanical performance,failure characters and mode of underpinning structure are compared with wall beam structure, and both two structures are simliar with each other, which could assure that underpinning structure belongs to the scope of wall beam structure. Considering the interaction working behavior of underpinning beam and walls, compared with common reinforced concrete beam, the underpinning structure has a high deflecting resistance ability and bearing capacity.An analysis are made on local crush which often occurs on the wall beyond underpinning beams. Measures preventing local crush are raised. The basic aim of experiment research is to provide theoretical evidence and structure measures of the design of translation underpinning structure.
