The structure noise of the marine gearbox seriously affects the confidentiality of the warships, the stability of the transmission system and the working environment of the sailors. There have been several ways to control the vibration and it is an effective method to put the damping structure on the gearbox to suppress the resonance. Generally, the design of the damping structural depends upon the experience and repeated experiments to obtain the structure parameters. This thesis carries on damping treatment in the stage of designing gearbox by FEM which has important theory values and application prospects.It is always a difficult problem to model the viscoelastic damping material accurately in a dynamics analysis because frequency has great influences to characters of the viscoelastic damping materials. This thesis put forward an iteration control program based on QR damping modal extraction method in ANSYS which can calculate the structure modal damping ratio accurately. The FE analysis are carried out using this program, obtaining vibration reducing effects of different damping structure types, sizes, materials, treatment positions and the corresponding conclusion of damping design on plate and shell structure.After the dynamics analysis of the gearbox, the vibration modes of the gearbox and stable response under the running condition are obtained. Corresponding the results of the dynamics analysis, the final damping project is determined according to the guidance of damping design theory.
