The Research On The Measures To Prevent Ship Accidents Caused By Electrostatics

It is recognized that most of the crude oils and other liquid cargoes are flammable, and their vapors, mixed with air, are explosive. Also, some of dusts of the grains and coals created in loading and discharging operations, mixed with air, are explosive. It is believed that quite a few of these explosion accidents are caused by the flames produced by Electrostatics. Therefore, the research and study of the laws and the characteristics of the ship-operation produced static electricity are of significant importance for the prevention against ship accidents caused by electrostatics.This paper, based on the cargo operations of tankers and some of the solid bulkers, introduces the application of the double electrostatic layers theory in the prevention of the static electricity produced in the operations of the loading and discharging, tank washing, care of cargo during the carriage, ullage survey, etc., and analyzes the forms and characteristics of the electrostatics induced in these operations. In its conclusion, a series of necessary suggestions, advises and precautionary measures are recommended for the prevention of ship accidents caused by static electricity.The conclusion and recommendation achieved in the research and study of this paper are of practical significance.
