Beam string structure and cylindric lattice shell are two typical form of space structures, with thorough theoretical research and designing methods, however, the stability out of plane for beam string structure needs to be controlled and cylindric lattice shell often brings huge resistive forces to bearings with a lower overall stability, which have limited the applications of these two form of structures. This paper presents a new structural form-string-cylindrical lattice shell. It is combined with an upper single-layer cylindrical shell and a lower cable-rod system, which could overcome the shortages and make best use of the advantages for above two structures. The new structure is studied systematically in theory in this paper.Chapter one briefly summarizes the history and classifications of long-span spatial structures and reviews the development history, project applications and research status of beam string structure and cylindric lattice shell. Also, the research contents of this paper are determined.Chapter two categorizes the string-cylindrical lattice shell according to the grid types of up single-layer cylindrical shell and types of lower cable-rod system, besides, it classifies the collocation form of lower cable-rod system under the cylindrical shell.Chapter three studies systematically on static performances for string-cylindrical lattice shell, including morphological analysis, designing of pre-stress and comparison of properties between different models. And it takes string-cylindrical lattice shellâ… as an example to analyze the influence of parameters, including pre-stress level, rise-span ratio, length of vertical bar, shell bar cross-section and plane size.Chapter four analyzes the self-vibration for two types of string-cylindrical lattice shell and single-layer cylindrical shell, besides it does parametric analysis, taking string-cylindrical shellâ… as an example. Also, utilizing EI-Centro wave, it studies the seismic response for the mono-wave and mono-span lattice shell and multi-wave and multi-span lattice shells. Chapter five analyzes the eigen buckling analysis and nolinear buckling analysis for two types of string-cylindrical lattice shell and single-layer cylindrical shell. And, taking string-cylindrical shell I as an example, it makes parametric analysis, including pre-stress level, rise-span ratio, length of vertical bar, shell bar cross-section, plane size and initial imperfection.Chapter six gives simplified analysis to multi-wave and multi-span cylindrical lattice shells. Acorrding to the different boundary conditions for different parts, four simplified analysis models were created and compared with shell monomers for properties. Then it makes use of the simplified model to analyze the selection of cross sections for lattice shell bars and design of the pre-stress level for cables.Chapter seven summarizes all the research in this paper and listes some problems to be solved in the future for string-cylindrical lattice shell.
