Suspen-dome, which is a development of the 'tensegrity' proposed by Fuller, is atypical spatial structure composed of cable elements, link elements, and beamelements. This structure system can give full play to the advantages of pre-stressedtechnology to improve the stiffness and load carrying capacity of single-layer shell.Recently, there are more research and engineering applications of suspen-dome, suchas sports building, exhibition building, etc. However, the construction planes aremostly circular or oval ones corresponding to the spherical or ellipsoid domes. Thatinterrupts the promotion application of the suspend-dome because of the unitary form. This paper presents a new form -- suspended cylindrical lattice shell, which is acombination of an upper single-layer cylindrical shell and a lower chord suspendedsystem. The new structure is studied systematically from two aspects, both in theoryand experiment.Chapter one briefly summarizes the classifications of long-span aptial structures. Also,it is analyzes the development history, project applications and research status ofsuspen-dome and the research contents of this paper are determined.Chapter two gives the classifications of the new structure. It proposes four types ofsingle unit forms according to the grid type of single-layer cylindrical shells and fourtypes of composed unit according to combination forms of single ones. These formscan be applied to different building forms of long-span spatial structure.Chapter three mainly summarizes the morphological Analysis of suspen-dome,including force finding problem, form finding problem and force finding and formfinding problem.Chapter four takes three-loop suspended orthogonal grid with one bracing cylindricallattice shell as an example to analyzes the static and dynamic performances.Parametric analysis is also done , including pre-stress level, shell bar cross-section,rise-span ratio and plane size.Chapter five does eigen buckling analysis on two single forms of three-loop suspened cylindrical lattices. With the parametric analysis, the eigen buckling properties areacknowledged. This chapter is also takes parametric analysis on the nonlinearbuckling on the three-loop suspended orthogonal grid with one bracing cylindricallattice shell. This paper also studies the effects of different number of pairs of stringsstring pillars on the shell stability and compares the economic performance of twokinds of large-span spatial structures.Chapter six designs a 1/8 scaled model of 3×3 grids of Shenzhen north stationcanopy. The test includes simulation of tension process, static loading and local cablebroken. The test results is compared with theory ones.Chapter seven summarizes all the research in this paper and listes some problems tobe solved in the future.
