There is a meteoric rise to the development of the large space structure in China recently, especially it is outstanding for the construction scale and the technological level of Beijing Olympic Stadium and Gymnasium, which is a milestone of steel structure development in China. Along with the widespread use of space steel structure in large space structure area, which has a fame of gracious architectural molding and great mechanical performance, K-type RHS joints made of circular steel tubes(such as plane K-type and space double K-type joint etc.) are presented in amounts of structures, which plays a main appearance of RHS joints. Otherwise, there are no concrete design rules of complex space joints in domestic and foreign codes. To such type of complex joints in significant projects, experimental method is the only plan for setting the bearing capacity. As a result of slow progress in the researching work of complex RHS joints, it is forming a crucial effect on safety and economics of engineering design. The paper presents a total and deep-going research on static performance of RHS joints made of K-type circular tubes, which is usual in building structures.Based on researches,the paper brings a reliable,practical and systematical bearing capacity design method of K-type joints made of circular tubes,and realize an instruction of engineering design and practice, and has been an crucial problem that is in a need of being solved.On the basis of review of researching situations of RHS joints made of steel tubes in homes and aboard,Space X-type plus double K-type joint, Space double K-type plus link-type joint, Space welding X-type plus double K-type joint and Space steel casting X-type plus double K-type joint are chose as study objects in the paper. With adopting infinite element software ABAQUS, the paper presents the deepen and systematical research on static performance of K-type joint made of circular tubes, and infinite element simulation and parameters analysis of varying joints are also proceeded, based on accurate infinite element calculation and theoretical analysis, according to research results, the paper gives the design suggestion that is of complex RHS joints of the truss structure. Through the research work of the paper, some pieces of helpful conclusions were brought to the upshot, which are provided some pieces of reference to formulation of codes and research works.
