| As modern architecture becomes more open, architects are also paying more attention to the connection between the inside space and outside, meanwhile, the communication between people and nature, people and people are emphasized more than ever. This trend has given the transitional space a modern role. Guided by the phenomenology, the design of transitional space would make the harmonious relationship among people, architecture and nature possible, and it would provoke our thought about the environment in which we live.As a significant part of architectural space, the transitional space is the inter-media between interior and exterior. The transitional space is the first space when we are leading ourselves into a certain building. The feeling of the visitors about this particular space, dose not only shows the character of the architectural space, but also indicates the architect's attitude toward the space inside the building as well as the outside.Based on the architectural practice of the oriental architects and the occidental ones, the author starts this thesis with the analysis of the different aspects of the transitional space, such as concept, definition, characteristics, value, multi-attribution, development of form, type and composing method. The author continues with the description of the theory or ideas about transitional space of a series of modern architects such as Mies van der Rohe, Aldo van Eyck, Herman Hertzberger, Kisho Kurokaya, Luranraison and Robert Venturi. And lastly, the author unscrambles the transitional space with the language of phenomenology and the role of the transitional space in the entire building is revealed. By the depiction of the spirit and perception of space in the works of Aldo Rossi, Tadao Ando and Steven Holl, these architects' original ideas and their personal ways of the lay out of the transitional space are unveiled.Phenomenology as a people-oriented philosophy can guide practice work of architecture. Transitional space as an integral part of space, it is equivalently phenomenological approach to perception and experience. |
