The steam turbine generator is the hub which connects the power plant and the power grid in the power system, and its running state influences the security and stability of the whole power system. As the development of the power grid's scale and the units'capacity, the position of generator in the power system is more and more important. Accordingly, it is important to study on fault analysis and fault diagnosis of the steam turbine generator.The steam turbine generator is a coupling unity of mechanical, electromagnetic and cooling system, the generator's components connect and influence each other. One part's failure will cause associated parts fault, even influence the whole system's function. Therefore, the research and analysis on a individual component or one single fault mode cannot realize the whole process of failure generating, nor eliminate fault fundamentally.This paper adopts the positive FTF method to analysis the steam turbine generator fault. The 300MW steam turbine generator is used as the reasearch object. The function structure tree and the reliability block diagram of the turbo generator is obtained, through analytic hierarchy to the generator's structure and function. FMEA method is adopted to analyze the turbo generator's components failure modes, fault characteristic, fault reasons and fault effects, the key fault modes of the turbo generator are obtained by calculate the fault modes'fatal degrees. Through FTA method analysis the key fault modes of the turbo genertator, the bottom events' minimum cut sets are obtained. The attributes of the minimum cut sets are analyzed. Fault diagnosis method based on multiattributes is put forwatd, and apply it on the diagnosis of the generator vibration fault.
