The damping is the main reason of structure's energy dissipation, it is described the process of structural-system vibration energy dissipation characteristics. The damping is one of the basic dynamic characteristics. During the dynamic response analysis, the damping has a great influence to the structure. The research on the damping began ages ago, and it continues to develop and improve some kinds of the damping theory. In recent years as the buildings higher and the bridges longer, a lot of scientific research and engineering tests were done. Meanwhile, the high-strength and light-weight structural materials, which keep the requirements of the structure's anti-disaster capacity, are also used in the engineering. The wind induced vibration and seismic response of the high-rise and long-span bridge structure, which make a lot of the important research direction, the structure of damping in the project also appears to have more and more important. In this paper, some domestic instances on the large civil engineering structures are cited, which is to determine the damping value and some appropriate rule. In the Long-span bridge construction's process, because there is no support cables except temporary support structures, the wind-induced vibration of the structure is more sensitive than normal, especially steel tower, and its damping characteristics will be some changes in construction. In this paper, according the Tai-Zhou Bridge tower's damping test, the damping properties of steel tower is preliminarily discussed.
