The cell rubber fender is widely applied in the defensive systems of ports. When loaded with ships, the force and deformation property of the cell rubber fender is complicated. With the development of the numerical finite element, it is meaningful to study the mechanical properties of the cell rubber fender with numerical simulation to design and refine the fender systems, which makes the designs more reasonable and economical and the operations of the fenders much safer. In this paper, ADINA is applied to simulate the rubber fender with one board-double cells to analysis the distribution of stress and the tendency of the deformation of the board. By simulations of three typical cases when berthing, the effective stress contours and deformation diagrams of the board are developed when the fender is under different deformations. When the board is under local strip loads, the stress goes beyond the designed value of the material and failures occur. With adjustments in the width of the strengthened board and height of the ribbed flab, stress diagrams of different boards are developed. At last, a discussion of the influence of the two factors on the stress of the board is made which provides references for the design and shape-choosing.Simulations with ADINA are convenient and low in cost and the results are reliable for the design and shape-choosing of the board.
