In recent years, the global economic develops rapidly, and shipping industry plays a very important role. With booming development of shipping industry, the ship which is the main shipping transportation tool arises a series of problems. And one of the most serious is the disastrous results which resulted from ship collision, such as life casualty, structural damage, oil leakage, environment pollution and so on. Consequently, it is of great significance to research the damage mechanism of ship collision and then to improve impact resistance of ship structure.Based on a multi-purpose vessel and a bulk carrier, in the thesis, it studies the situation that the bow of a ship impacts the side of another ship's engine room vertically, analyzes damage and energy change of side structure in ship collision with nonlinear FEM software ANSYS/LS-DYNA, puts forward concrete proposals of improving structure. The major work of studying and the conclusions are as follows:At first, based on summarizing significance, content and situation of study on researching ship collision, in the thesis, it discuss the basic theory of FEM systematically, and focuses on the explicit nonlinear FEM's application on ship collision.Secondly, as the same as two ships' actual size, the bow model are built with 3d modeling software Pro/E5.0 and then imported to ANSYS/LS-DYNA, and the model of engine room are built with ANSYS/LS-DYNA. Above two models'parameters are set in element types, real constants, material properties, partition of FEM mesh, constraints, initial velocity and so on.Thirdly, the analysis to the changes of velocity, displacement initial velocity collision force and collision energy of two models is studied in different collision position. Based on above analysis, optimization schemes of engine room structure are suggested. By comparing situation of the force and absorbing energy before and after optimization, the results show that the impact resistances of engine room structure optimized is stronger.
