Plate-fin heat exchanger is one of the most advanced and efficient heat transfer equipment. The advantage of Plate-fin heat exchanger is smaller,lighter,compacter structure,higher heat transfer efficiency,adaptability and flexible layout,etc. So,it is can be widely used in industry such as heat transfer of a variety of media and phase changing.In this paper,heat exchanger sizing,rating and complex methods are all analyzed to establish optimal plate-fin heat exchanger design model. A method of project practical heat exchanger design and structural optimization is developed to improve the plate-fin heat exchanger design efficiency and determine the optimal program.The focus of this paper is the optimal design of plate-fin heat exchanger. The plate-fin heat exchanger structure,heat transfer and resistance characteristics are analyzed. The calculation algorithm of the plate-fin heat exchanger design and check has been made. Further more,a full optimization of plate-fin heat exchanger model including the determination of design variables , constraints and the choice of objective function has been proposed. The mathematical model is solved by numerical iterations of complex method afterwards. The computer programming language of Fortran is used to develop optimized plate-fin heat exchanger design program. The program is made up of five modules of independent function, namely:input/output module,sizing module,rating module,optimization module and databases.In this paper,the plate-fin heat exchanger design and optimization are based on the design of air pre-heater in combined heat and power system. Three design methods which can be used in plate-fin heat exchanger dimensions parameter optimization,fin parameter optimization and new fin development advising are proposed. The results show that the complex method based on plate-fin heat exchanger optimization mathematical model is feasible and rational.In general,The advantage of this optimization method is efficient,stable,fast convenience of calculation,which make plate-fin Optimization of heat exchanger design become simple and efficient. The optimization method brings great convenience to the designer and has a great value in egineering.
