Shallow geothermal energy is an important component of Earth's heat energy, which is widely distributed and the temperature is steady. Furthermore it is also a clean renewable resources, the prospect of developing and make full use of it is good. With the social and economic development of Ningxia and the strategy implementation of the West Development put forward by the Party Central Committee, the importance of the economic status and geographic location of those cities which are located in an economic belt in Ningxia along the Yellow River is increasing day by day. The purpose of this dissertation is to evaluate the . suitability of developing and using shallow geothermal energy in some important cities which are located in an economic belt in Ningxia along the Yellow River.The suitability evaluation is the important link of developing and using shallow geothermal energy. The main task is to zone the researched area properly on the base of taking full account of hydrogeological conditions, water-rich condition, infiltration condition, water quality, the temperature, thermal properties and geological environment conditions and other factors. The suitability evaluation of shallow geothermal energy written in this dissertation includes two procedures:formulation and plotting. Formulation consists of determining the weight system and the score system. In this paper, AHP is applied for setting the weight of every factor during the suitability evaluation, the score system is determined through the comprehensive score that the experts marked. And we use ArcGIS to assign the factors in the researched area and process the space overlaying analysis. In the end, we add the weight to the score corresponding to the weight to get the comprehensive score, and then we use it to zone the researched area properly.The conclusions drawn by evaluation are listed as follows:Yinchuan, with great prospect of exploiting shallow geothermal energy, has the advantage of constructing ground heat pump. Compared with Yinchuan, the prospect of Shizuishan and Wuzhong is relatively less positive. Except Yinchuan, Zhongwei is the optimal area for developing and using shallow geothermal energy. Whether groundwater or ground-source heat pump we take, Zhongwei has better conditions to exploit shallow geothermal energy. In addition, Zhongwei has the unique tourism resources and certain economic strength, which can push forward the development and utilization of shallow geothermal energy.
