With the increasing pressure of environmental protection and energy-saving, green car has maintained a rapid development, especially in hybrid power technology. Hybrid electric vehicles will become the leading automotive type in the next few years. However, the sharply development of hybrid power technology brought a huge challenge to the current detection regulation. According to the structural characteristics of vehicles and the current detection conditions, light-duty hybrid electric vehicles can basically follow the existing traditional vehicles testing methods, but the heavy-duty hybrid electric vehicles are no longer fit for the traditional heavy-duty vehicles testing methods. Besides, there are no the specific performance assessment in emission certification. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the related test regulations at home and abroad, solve the problem of testing and primary study on the performance characteristics of heavy-duty hybrid electric vehicles. Above work will provide theoretic and data support for the development and refinement of relevant national regulations. This paper regards test as primary research techniques from the perspective of complete vehicle. Based on chassis dynamometer and testing system, the characteristic of energy consumption and emission of heavy-duty hybrid electric vehicle were researched in depth. The running resistance on the road generated from three different ways were compared and analyzed. Specific chassis dynamometer tests were carried out to accurately simulate road running resistance. According to the research object, detailed testing program was worked out. With reference to GB/ T 19754-2005 standard procedures, energy consumption and emissions test in different conditions were performed to study the influence of these test conditions to the characteristic of energy consumption and emission. In order to validate the impact of energy-saving and emission-reducing, vehicle test in hybrid power mode and traditional power mode were respectively carried out.Test result showed that more accurate vehicle running resistances on the road were acquired by the road coasting test. Running resistances generated from computational methods and road test had a larger gap, which will exert influence on the accuracy of subsequent chassis dynamometer test. Some test factors, such as cold environment, increased load, test cycle, larger setting resistance, were lead to more energy consumption and emission pollutant, which consists with correlative conclusion of traditional vehicle. The energy consumption and emission pollutant of test vehicle in hybrid power mode were obviously less than that in the traditional mode. In accordance with the level of energy consumption and emission, hybrid electric vehicles will have admirable effect of energy-saving and emission-reducing in its lifecycle.
