While processing large doubly curved hull plates, because of large area and small batch, so we should not use integral mould processing method. Moreover, line-heating processing technology cost a lot of manpower and material resources, especially operators should need rich experience. The research and development of plate bending machine with multi-press heads can solve above problems very well, these Rotable square press head can make up any surface with various shapes, this machine should be used to process forming for large plate pieces. The plate bending machine with multi-press heads makes the plate processing automatic and digital, it has a very good application prospects.The control system of plate bending machine with multi-press heads is the key component of this machine, which control the whole processes of plate bending machine with multi-press heads. it will decide the quality and precision of this machine's process forming. So it has great significance to study on the control system.In this paper, the sample of multi-pressure head bending machine (14×14 basic body for upper die,15×15 basic body for lower die) developed by shipbuilding workmanship and equipments research facility of Transportation College, Wuhan University of Technology,was studied. The specific contents are as follows:(1) The whole structure and control principle of the adjustable multi-pressure head bending machine was analyzed and displayed.(2) Discussing the constitution of the multi-pressure head bending machine's control system. The hydraulic system for PLC controlled bending machines was designed, including selection of PLC and I/O devices, distribution of I/O points. The control flow using the programming software Siemens STEP7-Micro/WIN was programmed, ladder diagram designed and debugged successfully.(3) The control for adjusting the basic body shape has been studied and the adjusting methods for basic body shape was been mastered. The part of the CAN bus communication, the control and drive for stepper motor were discussed, and the hardware part of the system was presented.
