Subsynchronous resonance (SSR) and hybrid simulation technology of electromagnetic and electromechanical process are both hot and difficult points in the power system research field. This paper attempted to apply the hybrid simulation technology into the research of SSR problems. Taking the JinJie power plant system as an example, by comparing the experiment results of hybrid simulation platform with electromagnetic simulation platform and actual wave record demonstrated the validity and accuracy of the former when analyzed and researched the SSR problem. In the meantime, the paper also research the related issues of SSR as follows:1) this paper analyzed the basic mechanisms of SSO caused by series capacitor compensation, researched the shaft torsional modes of the JinJie power plant's generator and electrical damping characteristics of the system; 2) by theoretic calculation and physics experiments, this paper researched impedance characteristics of the overhead lines and transformers in the range of subsynchronous frequency; 3) the principle that SVC damps SSR are elaborated, moreover this paper designed the SVC controller by a sub-mode method and verified the efficiency by hybrid simulation experiment.
