As the development of world economy and international trade, container transport business has been rapid development, container transportation has become an important symbol of modern transportation. In recent years, sea-rail transport has been development in China, empty containers can exist in transport system, the high cost of empty container becomes barrier of its further development. The cut of the cost influences not only the economy benefit of company but also the social economy benefit. Therefore, empty container reposition problem becomes an important subject of both academia and enterprises. This thesis studies empty container reposition problem under the sea-rail container transportation. To enterprises, it can provide a reasonable method and establish more realistic model for allocation of empty in order to minimize the total cost generated in the whole process of allocation of empty, providing decisions for shipping companies. The paper firstly illustrates the status of sea-rail transportation, characteristics and cause of empty container reposition problem and deficiency of, it will be the foundation of the model of later; secondly, describes the cost and influencing factors of empty containers reposition, based on this, makes empty containers reposition model considered cooperation of many companies and more realistic; then, simulates examples of empty containers reposition, confirms the feasibility of the model. Finally, proposes measures to reduce the cost of empty containers reposition, introduces the further research of the paper. The main contribution of the paper is that it concentrates on cooperation of many companies, improves the previous model, builds the better model, which provides a basis of decision-making of whole allocation which is important to the further development of sea-rail transportation.
