BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaic) refers to photovoltaic systems integrated with an object's building phase, which contains PV technology and architectural design of double meanings. BIPV has 20 years history since it's concept was proposed. In the current context of sustainable development, it's significance of application becomes more obvious. In recent years by support of relevant national policies, the development of BIPV is also very fast in China. From the architect's perspective, the thesis investigates BIPV through the analysis of two levels of PV technology and architectural design. On the application level, the thesis introduces the basic principles of PV technology and the performance of PV cells. After that, it discusses the design elements of PV system on building and the styles of PV application. On the architectural design level, temporarily overpassing economic factors, the thesis studies on BIPV in the context of architecture. Furthermore, it tries to analyze the relationship between BIPV and architecture design from three aspects:design manner, visual features and building skin. The thsis mainly consists of three parts:In the first part(Chapter Two), brief PV system and BIPV. In this part, the thesis focused on photovoltaic cells and the components which commonly used in BIPV.In the second part(Chapter Three), design elements and the styles of PV application on buildings. In this part, the thesis analyzes in detail the construction of photovoltaic systems and summarizes the architecture factors of efficiency. Furthermore, the thesis discuss the PV system in the construction of ways from the practical point of view, and supplemented by a large number of actual cases. In the last part(Chapter Four), mainly discuss on the relationship between BIPV and architecture design in architectural context. The thesis focuses on the meeting point of the architectural design and BIPV:design methods, Visual features of PV materials and architect skin.
