Huaqiao Town, Kunshan City is the research objective in this paper, on the basis of summarizing of existing geological data, using the preferred plane theory analysis, combined with typical engineering example, several content was studied:selection of building foundation and advantage bearing layer, the feasibility of underground space development and other issues of suitability, the conclusions are following:(1) The eara of Huaqiao town is flat, and its geomorphic type is single. Loose sediments of Quaternary stratigraphic widely distributed. The main causes of this soil is paralic, the thickness of superficial newly soft soil is large, high sensitivity, wide distribution. Project construction (whether surface construction, or underground engineering construction) easily induced inhomogeneous settlement, lateral sliding, peristalsis deformation, excavation pit instability, other environmental geotechnical engineering problems and geological disasters.(2) Based on urban planning of Kunshan city, the types of buildings, building's height in Huaqiao town, and combined with the engineering geological conditions of the foundation soil.A conclusion can be made that the pile foundation is the best form. (3) The foundation engineering geological layer is optimization analysised based on the preferred plane analysis theory. First of all, identify the advantage indicators of bearing stratum, then set the weights and factor, find out comprehensive value of every bearing stratum, finally, find out advantage bearing stratum. According to the stratum situation divided already of Huaqiao, analyzes and evaluates the geological condition of two core areas. By contrasting capacity eigenvalues, the two core areas are divided into three categories:superior(In the east), moderate(In the west)and inferior(in the south).(4) According to the status and long-term planning of urban construction in Huaqiao Town, the development and utilization of underground space was studied in the advantages of rail 11 in Shanghai. The analysis includes dot type,strip type and pieces type. Vertical layout fall into shallow (times shallow),times deep and deep top-to-bottom. Underground space development should be controlled in depth of short-term within 30 meters under the surface, so that priority development sapace means shallow and times shallow space. The two underground spaces contain larger spatial capacity, at the present stage they could completely meet the requirements of the development of locality.(5) A practical project is studied, the anlysis includes foundation lateral deformation, uplift of foundation and the stability of supporting structure.
