Orthotropic steel deck is an integral structure composed of perpendicular stiffeners (longitudinal rib and diaphragm plate) and bridge deck, which are bearing wheel load together. Because of advantages such as saving material, light weight, high ultimate bearing capacity and short construction period etc, orthotropic steel deck is widely applied to long-span bridge construction. Based on reading a large number of domestic and foreign literature, this paper researches section types and fatigue performance of orthotropic steel deck by general finite element program, and mainly has completed contents as follows:1) Beginning with describing the evolution process of section types of orthotropic steel deck which educes the relationship of section types and fatigue performance, theories and methods of analysising fatigue of steel bridge are reviewed and summarized subsequently.2) It compares fatigue design methods in AASHTO LRFD(2007), BS5400-10(1980), Eurocode3(1993), TB10002.2-2005, JTJ025-86 and GB50017-2003 from four respects: design criterions, structure details, S-N curves and fatigue loads, and emphatically analyzes classifications of structure details of orthotropic steel deck and regulations of structure parameters of bridge deck, longitudinal rib and diaphragm plate.3) Taking Jiujiang Yangtze River Expressway Bridge as an engineering background,3 groups summed up to 10 section types are designed and static performance under wheel load of these is researched in turn. According to the results, it separately compares influences of different longitudinal rib sections, diaphragm plate drillings and inner diaphragms of longitudinal rib on stress distribution and concentration in each junction of orthotropic steel deck.4) Fatigue stress of one section that is the practical section of background project is analyzed by BS5400. Fatigue damage and fatigue life in different level of failure probability is evaluated too.5) According to the finite element analysis and fatigue assessment results, the development trend of section type of orthotropic steel deck is discussed.
