Electrostatic can be seen from everywhere in our daily life and industrial, and it causes serious results and damages. ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge) is a subject founded from mid of this century which researches producing and attenuation of electrostatic, ESD model, ESD effects such as current heat (sparks) effects (such as fire and explosion caused by static electricity) and electromagnetic effects. ESD causes more and more attention with rapid development of science and technology, wide applications of micro-electronics and gradually complex in electromagnetic environment. ESD generator is the main tool for testing discharge capcability of chips in ESD experiments.A kind of ESD generator is introduced,in which design for both system of hardware and software is included. The main work is shown as following:1. The principle and damage of electrostatic are analyzed. The design requirements of ESD are put forward researching on the ESD models.2. Hardware design of ESD based on AT89C51RC microprocessor is given in detail. On the basis of the general hardware plan, we detaily describe digital circuit design and analog circuit design including numerical controlled high voltage power, discharge networks etc.3. Detailed software design of ESD is given. We introduce the design methods of microcontroller and host computer programs. Otherwise, main workflows is given.4. ESD generator developed is tested. Currents of HBM, MM, BMM are tested and measured waveforms are given.Finally, contributions of this work is summarized,and further works are analysed and prospected.
