Lattice domes, which were derived from ancient people's simulation of the natural arches and shells, have very long history. With the development of construction materials, lattice domes also have several different developing phases. As the theory and tools of calculation are being consummated, lattice domes are also developed into many different types and being widely used today. Compared with the traditional lattice domes, great breakthroughs about structural form, beam section and span have been obtained in this anomalous single-layer lattice dome in Yujiapu. The lattice is formed by the across of beams which are distributed along the clockwise and counter clockwise spiral lines. Welded rectangular section is firstly used in this lattice dome. The spans of this dome in two dimensions reach 80 and 143 meters, which are also the largest spans of single-layer lattice domes in China.Considering the edge condition and different kinds of loads of the dome, a holistic finite element model was built in ANSYS software by taking reasonable predigestions and choosing suitable element type. Firstly, static analysis was done. Based on the calculation of deflection,stress and reactions under 8 different kinds of load combinations, the dome has good static mechanical performance.Secondly, the research of static stability was done. The basic theory of stability and the normal ways of calculation are introduced at first. Considering the geometric nonlinear,material nonlinear and initial imperfection, stability of the holistic structure was researched by using arc-length method. The displacement-load curves of several nodes and the stability ratio were obtained. The dome, whose two stability ratios are 8.3 and 5.2 under different conditions, has good stability.Finally, seismic excitation response was calculated. The character of earthquake and the ways of calculation are introduced. The vibration shapes-separation-spectra-method and time-history-method were both used to calculate the seismic excitation response based on the dynamical characteristics of the dome. The result shows that the seismic excitation response of this dome is not notable.
