In recent years,the construction scale of the habor is increasing due to the need of economic development.As a result,the breakers are farther away from the shore,which face the poor water and geological conditions. Under these conditions , the traditional type breakwaters are not suitable any more, so many erperts suggest all kinds of new type breakwaters that are different from traditional ones.The inverse T type breakwater with jackets and pile foundations is one of the new type breakwaters, which mixes gravity breakwater with pile ones, and its working mechanism and failure pattern are unclear.Therefore,in the article,according to the engineering cases,a series of research work have been carried out on the stability analysis and engineering application of this new type breakwater. The main contents and conclusions are as follows:1.A 3D elastic-plastic finite element model was estabilished for stability analysis of the inverse T type breakwater with jackets and pile foundations. Furthermore, four criterions to judge the stability of this new type breakwater were proposed. Based on the displacement field distribution of the structure in a critical state, the instability mode can be concluded as the inverse T type breakwater with jackets and pile foundations rotating around a point that is below the top structure and deviates the axis of the pile foundations.Also,the soil pressure distribution on pile foundations of the inverse T type breakwater was studied. Simplified calculation methods of soil pressures for this type breakwater, which revises the method of calculating ultimate soil resistance on the pile lateral in API.2.Factors influencing the stability of the inverse T type breakwater with jackets and pile foundations were analyzed.For the purpose of engineering application, simplified calculation methods for anti-overturning and anti-sliding analyses are presented here.These methods are based on finite element method and the critical equilibrium.And a simplified method for vertical bearing capacity calculation was also established,based on classical bearing capacity theories. Moreover, the method of determining the overturning point of this new type breakwater was given.3.According to stability and strength requirements of the structure, parameters influencing the dimensions of the inverse T type breakwater with jackets and pile foundations were proposed.Under water and geological conditions of Tianjin Port area, the suitable dimension of the inverse T type breakwater with jackets and pile foundations was given to apply to the engineering,with the analysis of the project cost.
