The application of advanced technology of computer simulation in the process of research and development of complex weapon system greatly reduces the number of live ammunition target practice and shortens the development cycle. Therefore, the application of computer simulation technology brings huge economic benefits. The incorporation of virtual reality technology into the simulation system provides the designers and researchers with an immersive, interactive and real-time method of analyzing and accessing.A missile system is a multi-protocol system composed of several simulation members that are physically distributed. Such simulation system is also characterized by various control strategies, complex data interface and heterogeneous data. In order to achieve the co-simulation of members of missile system, the interoperation between federates of a complicated system and to improve the validity and reliability of the missile system, many simulation members have to be incorporated into a comprehensive simulation system.A HLA-based missile simulation system was studied in this paper, and the architecture of a missile simulation system was designed, which includes physical simulation member, mathematical simulation member and scene simulation member. The following content is the specific research:1) Research was made on how to introduce the physical simulation member into the HLA-based simulation system. The introduction of the physical simulation member solved the problem than the mathematical models of certain simulation members of the missile simulation system are hard to build, which greatly reduced the adverse effect of some non-linear elements and significantly improved the validity of the simulation.2) A local real-time network was built in a HLA-based simulation system and the real-time communication of data was studied, which met the demanding need for real-time performance of physical simulation members.3) Scene simulation makes it possible for computer to reproduce the simulation process of the missile system. The model of scene and simulation entity was build with Creator. With VEGA served as the simulation engine, the display of model and rendering of scene can be achieved. The scene simulation control program was developed with VC++, which shows the process of simulation of missile system with three-dimension animation.4) Modelica-based missile model was introduced in order to improve the modeling flexibility of some models in the missile system. The introduction of such models greatly simplified the modeling of complex equation-based system.A HLA-based, distributed missile simulation system was developed, which achieved the integration of scene simulation, physical simulation and Modelica-based simulation. The research in this paper has already been applied in a missile simulation system in an institute and proved to be an excellent resolution.
