As the architecture and function of civil aircraft avionics becomes more complicated, the understanding of its general requirement and subsystems becomes increasingly important. The communications system, one of the subsystems of avionics, has provided a basic platform for comprehensive flight information attaining and sharing, the navigation/surveillance system playing a crucial role in situational awareness and flight plan management. Meanwhile, flight control system is the major interface for pilots to maneuver the vehicle, and aircraft system controller shows the airborne computers'irreplaceable management and decision-making character onboard. Thus, the definition and design philosophy for the above 4 subsystems is an epitome of civil avionics'general requirement and system definition. In terms of system design, the Waterfall Model, Spiral Model and V-style Model are quite popular among the present area of aviation, which feature their respective characteristics and advantages. The V-style Model is an especially frequent tool in the civil avionics design. In this thesis, the NextGen V-style Model idea, whose performance has also been analyzed through communications system design, is defined on the improvement for several working phases of the original V-style Model. It aims at promoting the system design efficiency, reducing the workload and money spending. In the last part, the NextGen V-style Model has been slightly modified according to the specific features of flight control system and navigation/surveillance system, so as to present a better performance in engineering practice.
