With the rapid economic development in recent years, the sharp growth of the operation for shipment engaged in the Three Gorges reservoir area, some serious problems appeared frequently and catastrophically, such as the ship collision and grounding accidents, which are caused by the busy water traffic and a relatively narrow waterway and so on.Consequently, it is urgent to mention the program in our daily schedule to prevent the water pollution problem caused by the ship (especially oil and chemicals ship) collisions. In this paper, the finite element numerical simulation and Simplified analysis method was adopt to accomplish the study.Firstly, a direct illustration on the research status and the main research methods of ship collision were introduced in this paper. Next, a brief summary on the achievements gained by the various research methods were followed by.Secondly, in this paper, the Finite element numerical simulation and the Simplified analysis were taken as the main research methods to discuss the assessment standard of collision damage for the double-shell ship in the Three Gorges reservoir area as well as the selection of the critical fracture strain.Thirdly, a series of simplified finite element numerical simulation studies were made on the double-shell ship collision in dangerous condition. By the finite element numerical simulation method, a conclusion was draw that the dangerous condition of the impact damage for the double-shell oil and chemicals ship side structure is decided by the vertical impact in the middle of strong ribs of side structure. And then, an investigation was conducted by simplified analysis on the ship collision. In the following part, a series of simplified assumptions of calculated model of the collision were made to manifest a more concise analytical expression, as well as a more reasonable collision damage assessment. Finally, a summary was stated clearly to share some light to the future investigation.
