The cable crane is specialized hoisting equipment for stiffening the erection of main beam of long-span suspension bridge. It consists of the hoisting system, cable walking system, steel truss, dynamic system, control system, ascending spreaders, auxiliary systems and so on. The steel truss of cable crane is the fundamental carrier of all loads. The strained condition and structural stability under different walking and construction states should be paid more attention in design process. So the structure selection, force analysis and structural optimization are of great importance in the steel truss of cable crane.The purpose of this text is to develop the walking type deck unit erection gantry with fully-hydraulic and large-tonnage. Relaying on the background of the Hunan Aizhai Bridge cable erection research program, the structure and design of the crane cable set system are summarized on the basis of the steel truss girder, modular design and selection of design parameter. To ensure the safety of the crane cable set reliably applied to the engineering practice, structural load tests also were compared with the theoretical calculations. The main content is as below:(1) The development history of the cable crane was reviewed. Summary and analysis are proposed on the application actuality of the cable crane of suspension bridge erection, some shortcomings and existing problems are pointed out, at the same time, prospect of cable crane development is also given.(2) Explanation on the structure and composition of walking type deck unit erection gantry with fully-hydraulic and large-tonnage nowadays, and summary on the cable containing various components of the crane structure design and calculation systems are given. Design principles and finite elements method of the structure are also discussed. It also includes deduction of the calculation principle of Finite Element Analysis, along with briefly introduction of the cable crane attachment.(3) Based on research project of the Hunan Aizhai cable suspension bridge, innovative design concepts is put up. Discussion of the details of the cable crane starting from the design tasks to the whole process of the structure calculation analysis. Taken the main truss of the cable crane as an example, a comprehensive point of view on their structural analysis from checking structural static strength, overall stability and local stability checking, the node checking and a dynamic modal analysis is conducted.(4) Structural loading test for processed forming of Hunan Aizhai large suspension bridge, design of the measuring point of the cable crane structure containing strain and deformation, installation of the measuring point sensors, grade loading and acquisition of the deformation data under the strain of each scale were given. Those test data were collected, prepared and also compared with the theoretical data. The test results show that the structure is safe and the test result is consistent with the theoretical analysis.
